What is A tattoo? It's a form of body modification, made by inserting indelible ink directly into the dermis layer of your skin to change the pigment. The first written reference related to the word, "tattoo" (or Samoan "Tatau") appears in the journal of Joseph Banks, the naturalist aboard Captain Cook's ship the HMS Endeavour: "I shall now mention the way they mark themselves indelibly, each of them is so marked by their humor or disposition".
Tattooing has been practiced for centuries in a lot of cultures spread throughout the planet. The Ainu, an indigenous people of the island of Japan, traditionally had facial tattoos. Today, one can find Berbers of Tamazgha (North Africa), Māori of New Zealand, Hausa people of Northern Nigeria, Arabic people in East-Turkey and Atayal of Taiwan with facial tattoos. Tattooing was very widely spread among Polynesians and among certain tribal groups in Taiwan, Philippines, Borneo, Mentawai Islands, Africa, North America, South America, Mesoamerica, Europe, Japan, Cambodia, New Zealand and Micronesia. Indeed, the island of Great Britain takes its name from tattooing, with Britons translating as 'people of the designs' and the Picts, who originally inhabited the northern part of Britain, which literally means 'the painted people'.[1] British people remain the most tattooed in Europe.[1] Despite some taboos surrounding tattooing, the art continues to be popular in many parts of the world.
The American Academy of Dermatology distinguishes the 5 types of tattoos:[8] traumatic tattoos, also called "natural tattoos", that result from injuries, especially asphalt from road injuries or pencil lead; amateur tattoos; professional tattoos, both via traditional methods and modern tattoo machines; cosmetic tattoos, also known as "permanent makeup"; and medical tattoos.
In addition, tattooing of the gingiva from implantation of amalgam particles during dental filling placement and removal is possible and is not so very uncommon. Here's a another example of such accidental tattoos is the result of a deliberate or accidental stabbing with a pencil or pen, leaving graphite or ink beneath the upper layers of the skin.
Today Before the tattooing artist begins the client is asked to approve the final position of the applied stencil. After the approval is granted the tattoo artist will open new, sterile needle packages in front of the client, and always use new, sterile or sterile disposable supplies and instruments, and fresh new ink for each session (loaded it into disposable ink caps which are discarded after each and every client). Also, all areas which may be touched with contaminated gloves will be wrapped in clear plastic to prevent cross-contamination. Equipment that cannot be autoclaved (such as counter tops, machines, and furniture) will be wiped with an approved disinfectant.[45]
Starting in the 1990s, tattoos have become a mainstream part of global and Western fashion, common among both men and women, to all economic classes, and to age groups from the later teen years to middle age. By the 2010s, even the Barbie doll put out a tattooed Barbie in the year 2011, which was very widely accepted by many, although it did attract some controversy.[11] In 2010, 25% of Australians under age 30 had got tattoos.[12]
